Sgt Maj Melvin O'Neal Chestnut May 25,1960-Feb 24,2015

Sgt Maj Melvin Chestnut was the adoptive brother of Brandy Loves Beauty owner Brandy Washington Nelson. Melvin proudly served his country under the Marine Corps for 30 years, was a member of Montford Point Marine Association Chapter 12, and Project Manager of a Safety Ambassador Program under the Downtown San Diego Clean and Safe Program from June 2008 until July 2009.  He was a great human being with a great sense of humor.After retirement, Melvin would always give you good advice before you leave and sent inspirational emails and text messages to start your day. Melvin met Brandy's father Retired GySgt George Elvin Washington in 1978 and they were friends till his death. On February 24, 2015 Melvin died from a long battle with stomach cancer. In memory of  Sgt Maj Melvin Chestnut, Brandy Loves Beauty will donate proceeds from sales in February and May. The proceeds will be going to cancer research and to our service men and women in Melvin’s name.



During his time in the Marines Corps he served in the Gulf war, Desert Shield, and Iraqi Freedom. Melvin was awarded  the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Armed Forces, Expedition Medal, Combat Action, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon w/star, Good Conduct Medal (10th award), National Defense Medal w/star, South West Asia Medal w/3 stars, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon w/silver and 3 bronze star, Drill Instructor Ribbon w/star, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) and the Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
